What is a WDB file
How to open a WDB file
You need a suitable software like World of Warcraft to open a WDB file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your WDB file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a WDB file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert WDB files:
- World of Warcraft by Blizzard
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. WDB files are often referred to as World of Warcraft games because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Works (database) by MicrosoftWorks is a discontinued relational database management system. A database created with Works is saved in a WDB file. This file format is classified as Database.
WDB file format details:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. In the following you will find our evaluation of the WDB files:
You will often come across the WDB file type. This is primarily used by a single program. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 75% of all WDB files internally use the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also known by the name OLE2 Compound Document Format or Composite Document File Format. This Windows file format has features similar to those of a filesystem format with virtual files and subfolders. Header signature for the CFB format with 8-byte Hex value D0CF11E0A1B11AE1 (which looks like "DOCFILE"). The unique Windows component object identifier is 28cddbc3-0ae2-11ce-a29a-00aa004a1a72 or 00021303-0000-0000-c000-000000000046. The file contains sections CompObj, MM, MN0 and MatOST. The average file size is 35 KB with most files being between 10 KB and 250 KB in size. The file type was created 20 years ago but is still used today. These files can be linked to list, database, book, address, cake, braunschweig, christmas, fotoalben, adresses, gosamemb and data.
- 5% of all WDB files have the same signature BD. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. WDB files can be up to 11 MB in size, but are often around 4 KB - 10 MB. The keywords BDIW40 and SUne are typical for these files. A usual file name is itemcache.wdb or c3.wdb.
The remaining 20% of all WDB files are different files with different signatures, often e.g. Microsoft Works for DOS DataBase, Xilinx ISE Simulator Waveform DataBase, JetDB and SQL. The category is base, addresses, chocolate, npccache, records, replays, behav or cards. If you want to find out which format your WDB file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .wdb file to view".

a wdb cached data is a special file format by Blizzard and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with WDB files
- Associate the WDB file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open cached data files. Because only the current version supports the latest WDB file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Blizzard manufacturer website after an available World of Warcraft update.
- To make sure that your WDB file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .WDB file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
