What is a 123 file?

123 files mostly belong to PCB123 by Sunstone. A 123 file is a printed circuit board (PCB) design document created using PCB123 circuit design program. It contains the 2D or 3D drawing of a 1, 2, 4, or 6-layer printed circuit board. Electronic components, soldermasks, wires, and documentation for a PCB are saved in the same 123 file. Another type of 123 file is a raster image containing a text comment created with image editors such as ImageReady and GIMP. The text comment in a 123 file is initially saved in PNG format before it is embedded in an image and exported (to various formats).
