What is a 16 file

16 files mostly belong to PDFium. *.16 files are not a single type of file. They are used as a renamed extension for several internal file formats.
Many of these files are actually PDF documents. In these cases the file is simply renamed with a .16 extension to hide its original type. You can open such files with PDF software like PDFium or Adobe Acrobat.
Other uses include:

3D model files: These files hold game models and textures. They are used in games (for example, in Devil May Cry 5) and may require specific tools to view or modify.

ZIP archives: Some .16 files are compressed archives. You can extract them with tools like 7-Zip.

Firmware update files: Certain .16 files contain firmware or configuration data (such as RAIDiator updates by Netgear). Use the device support software to manage these.

Most of these files are 1 KB to 11 KB in size. The files contain the following words: Character, SectionRoot, mesh, Player and Section. pl1000_body_costume_c.pfb.16 is a typical file name. These files are attributed to costume, body, hair, powershot and setonly.

The remaining 55% of all 16 files are files with no common format, often e.g. LSS16 SYSLINUX Splash image, ZIP, JFIF, PNG, ELF and info. Sometimes used for high, video, server, audio, fort or pack.
