Opening a 3D File
The 3D file type is primarily associated with Cadwork.
What is a 3D file
How to open 3D files
You need a suitable software like Cadwork to open a 3D file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your 3D file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a 3D file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert 3D files:
- Cadwork by Cardwork
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. 3D files are often referred to as Cadwork cads because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Advent 3B2 (document) by GPSLAdvent 3B2, short for Abortext Advanced Print Publisher is a Windows-based software for creating and publishing rich media documents. Documents created with Advent 3B2 have 3D extension. This file format is classified as Data.
- Atari (3D objects and animations) by AtariStereo CAD 3D was a software for creating and rendering 3D models/visualizations on Atari ST computers. 3D files created with Stereo CAD 3D contain 3-dimensional vertexes, objects, and animations. This file format is classified as 3D Image.
- Geocadabra (math analysis and drawing.) by Ton LecluseGeocadabra is an e-learning software for used to draw 2D and 3D geometry shapes and mathematical presentations. The program features advanced utilities for statistical and analytical calculations and is compatible with several Windows operating systems and printer functionality. 3D drawings and analysis created with pe:Geocadabra are stored in 3D files. This file format is classified as 3D Image.
- i3D (3D virtual reality) by Center for Advanced Studies, Research and Development in Sardiniai3D is a system that combines the 3D input and high-performance rendering capabilities of high-end virtual reality systems with the data fetching capabilities of network browsers. This is an old VRML project, first released in 1995. 3D virtual worlds/models created with i3D were stored in 3D files. This file format is classified as 3D Image.
- PowerPublisher (document) by WebXPowerPublisher (previously Al-Arabi Publisher) was a multi-lingual publishing software for Windows computers. The program supported vector and raster graphics objects and could save/export documents in 3D, TIF, PCX, and WMF formats. This file format is classified as Data.
- SpinFire (secure 3D CAD model and data) by ActifySpinFire is a computer-aided design software with a variety of options for 3D data visualization. The 2004 Professional edition provides a 3D WorkSpace feature, allowing you to view and save multiple documents of different native file types within one 3D file. This file format is classified as CAD. Related links: SpinFire Professional
- Survex (3D cavern model) by SurvexSurvex is an open-source software for mapping caves and creating 3D models from the collected data on Windows, Mac and Linux computers. 3D models created with Survex are stored in 3D files. This file format is classified as GIS.
- VersaCAD (3D drawing) by ArchwayVersaCAD is a production-level computer-aided design software developed by Archway for Windows operating system and mostly used by engineers and architects. The program can be used to create and visualize 2D and 3D designs. 3D files created width VersaCAD contain 3D objects, models, and/or simulations. This file format is classified as 3D Image.
3D file format:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. In the following you will find our evaluation of the 3D files:
The 3D file type covers different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 35% of all 3D files use ZIP compression, so several files are combined and compressed into one 3D file. 10 to 17 compressed files are common. File names inside are CONTENT_3D.BBK, CONTENT_3D.FDB, CONTENT_3D.SAB, PNG1.PNG, Project.xml, Projekt.xml, \Debug\ActionMap.txt, \Debug\MsgMap.txt, \MultiLayerWalls\, \Variants\, \architecture\ and \dpp\. You can see the included files and images by renaming the file extension to .zip and then double-clicking it. The average file size is 5 MB with most files being between 1 MB and 13 MB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. CONTENT_3D.BBK. Such files are related to abbund and model.
- 8% of all 3D files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "fdb " at the beginning. The content also consists of readable text fragments, which can be viewed with the help of a text editor. 3D files can be up to 2 MB in size, but are often around 41 KB - 1 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as fdt. Files like these are sometimes connected to swords.
All other 3D files (57%) have different formats, such as UTF-16 (LE) and general. Sometimes used for mesh, port, scan or tank. You can get all the details of your 3D file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .3d file to view" above.
Technical Data for 3D File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.

a 3d 3D model and simulation is a special file format by Cardwork and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with 3D files
- Associate the 3D file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open 3d model and simulations. Because only the current version supports the latest 3D file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Cardwork manufacturer website after an available Cadwork update.
- To make sure that your 3D file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .3D file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
