What is a 3D file

3D files mostly belong to Cadwork by Cardwork. 3D file extension is mainly associated with 3-dimensional file formats used to store data such as 3D images, animations, models, scenes, materials, vertex coordinates, light sources, color, and props typically encoded in XML, plain text, or binary format. Some legacy computer-aided design software relied heavily on the 3D format. Although most programs now have their respective formats such as OBJ and STL for storing 3D content, software like 3DS MAX can still store and export 3D content as 3D files. Also, Survex, a cave-surveying program uses 3D file extension to store 3D models of caves. Abortext Advanced Print Publisher, a Windows-based program for creating and publishing documents containing multiple media types use the 3D file extension to store documents. Geocadabra, a software for drawing geometry mathematical models and functions stores data in 3D files.

How to open 3D files

You need a suitable software like Cadwork to open a 3D file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your 3D file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a 3D file directly in the browser:.
