999 file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. In the following you will find our evaluation of the 999 files:
The 999 file extension is not found very often and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 60% of all 999 files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "ISA*00* " at the beginning. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. The files are on average 340 bytes in size and range from 290 bytes to 420 bytes. The file type is relatively new. The keywords 005010X231A1, 030240928 and AV09311993 are typical for these files. Files like these are sometimes connected to batch and node.
- 5% of all 999 files are using the well-known EXE file format to store the data. EXE is the abbreviation for executable and is the standard executable file format on Windows. The format can be identified by the letters "MZ" at the beginning. Executable files can also be used to distribute viruses and other types of malicious software (malware). If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The average file size is 17 KB with most files being between 5 KB and 47 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. !This program cannot be run in DOS mode. Examples of file names are 000setup.999.
All other 999 files (35%) have different formats. If you want to find out which format your 999 file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .999 file to view".
