Opening an ABX File

The ABX file type is primarily associated with Dymo LabelWriter.

ABXFile Extension ABX
File extension: ABX
File type:  XML data file

What is an ABX file

ABX files mostly belong to Dymo LabelWriter. ABX files are mainly used as Address Book XML files. They store contact and address information in an XML structure that is used by Dymo LabelWriter software to create labels.
The file contains data fields such as:
  • Names and Addresses
  • Contact Information
  • Label Settings
  • This setup lets the software read and organize the information easily.
In a few cases, an ABX file might also be used for storing an Arabic audio book or an Android address book backup. These uses are not as common as the address book function.
FilExt.com tip: To open or view an ABX file, use Dymo LabelWriter software or a simple text editor to inspect its XML content. For more details on the Dymo implementation, visit the Dymo Official Website.

How to open an ABX file

You need a suitable software like Dymo LabelWriter to open an ABX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ABX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ABX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

    ABX file format:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the ABX files is as follows:

The ABX file extension is rather rarely used and mainly uses a special format. But the following two file formats are common:

All other ABX files (20%) have no consistent format. Files like these are sometimes linked to card or xmas. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your ABX file!
