What is an ABX file
The file contains data fields such as:
In a few cases, an ABX file might also be used for storing an Arabic audio book or an Android address book backup. These uses are not as common as the address book function.
FilExt.com tip: To open or view an ABX file, use Dymo LabelWriter software or a simple text editor to inspect its XML content. For more details on the Dymo implementation, visit the Dymo Official Website.

ABX file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the ABX files is as follows:
The ABX file extension is rather rarely used and mainly uses a special format. But the following two file formats are common:
- 80% of all ABX files internally utilize the XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. ABX files are between 120 bytes and 71 KB in size. The file type is old but is used even today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>, <AddressBook, Version="8.0", DefaultPermutation="true", <AddressEntry>, AddressData and Format="Native">. The following filename is common: Sample Address Book.ABX. Such ABX files store data about address, book, sample, list, christmas, addresses, adresboek, voorbeeld, family, labels and cards.
All other ABX files (20%) have no consistent format. Files like these are sometimes linked to card or xmas. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your ABX file!
Technical Data for ABX File Extension
