Opening ACC Files
The ACC file type is primarily associated with GEM.
What is an ACC file?
- Main Use: ACC files are used in computers belonging to the Atari ST line-up of the mid-1980s. The essential software compatible with this series of home computers use the ACC file extension. These ACC file extension software are referred to as Desktop Accessories examples of which are ProCal (scientific calculator) and EdHack (Text editor). These ACC files are run with the help of the GUI called GEM ( Graphical Environment Manager) which is a part of the Atari TOS (a derived version of TOS called the Atari TOS where TOS literally stands for 'The Operating System').
- Other Uses: ACC file format is used for storing image composer files associated with Altamira Composer, a graphics-based image editor that was initially intended for MS-DOS and was later merged into Microsoft in 1994. ACC files are also used by Graphics Accounts software as data files. Graphical Accounts, an interactive finance application developed by FKJ Software, is useful in the planning and maintenance of personal budgets. These ACC files can be opened in unison with the related BGT(budget) files. ACC file extension is also used to denote ViewMAX files compatible with DR-DOS.
How do you open ACC files?
You need a suitable software like GEM to open an ACC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ACC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ACC file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

ACC file extension format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the ACC files looks like this:
The file type with the extension 'ACC' includes different formats for the applicable programs. The file formats most commonly found in ACC files are:
- 30% of all ACC files are based on the zip format, that is, an ACC file includes multiple compressed files. The average file count is 107 with most ACC files containing between 31 - 170 compressed files. Customary file names are ACCOUNT.MEM, AGING.CDX, APPAY.CDX, APPIN.CDX, APPOST.CDX, APVEND.CDX, ARCUST.CDX, ARPAY.CDX, ARPIN.CDX, ARPOST.CDX, ARTRAN.CDX, ASSET.CDX, BADDEBT.CDX, BANK.CDX, BANKSPR.CDX, BSPBANK.CDX, BUSINESS.CDX, CAOPEN.CDX, CURRENCY.CDX, CURRENCY.MEM and ERRFILE.CDX. If you want to see the included files and images, simply rename the file extension to .zip and double-click it. A typical file size is 280 KB. The files contain the following words: accmem.dbf. A common filename is BACKUP.ACC.
- 7% of all ACC files are based on the popular MP4 file format. MP4 is a multimedia container format used to store video and audio and allows streaming over the Internet. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are often between 49 KB and 850 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as lmvhd, \tkhd, ftypisom, isomiso2mp41, trak and moov.
All other ACC files (63%) have no uniform format, often, for example, DeskMate Program/Accessory executable and zlib. Tagged as statement, sequences, punjab, india, becc or film. If you want to find out which format your ACC file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .acc file to view this image".
