Opening an ACS File
The ACS file type is primarily associated with ActionDirector.
What is an ACS file?
How to open an ACS file
You need a suitable software like ActionDirector to open an ACS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ACS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ACS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

ACS file extension format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the ACS files looks like this:
ACS is not a commonly used file extension and covers different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 50% of all ACS files are associated with Microsoft Agent Character. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The file size is in the range of 620 KB to 5 MB. The file type was created 20 years ago but is still used today. The following filename is common: rover.acs or CLIPPIT.ACS. Such files are related to object, bonzi, bonz, offcat, genie and qmark.
- 10% of all ACS files are based on the well-known XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. Most of these files are 24 KB to 100 KB in size. The files contain the following words: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>, DateTime, DeviceUsed, Duration, Notes, SerialNumber, Session and WaffleMAC. The file name SN20180601.ACS is typical for these files.
All other ACS files (40%) have no uniform format, the following 4 formats exist: ZIP and ARCUBE. Just click the "Choose your .acs file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your ACS file is.

How to solve problems with ACS files
- Associate the ACS file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open video projects. Because only the current version supports the latest ACS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the CyberLink manufacturer website after an available ActionDirector update.
- To make sure that your ACS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .ACS file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
