What is an ACV file?

ACV files mostly belong to Photoshop by Adobe. ACV is the extension for the Adobe Curve file format. It is used by Adobe Photoshop, a raster graphics editing software. An ACV file is a binary file used to store adjustments made using the Curves tool that are applied to images. This tool allows users to adjust RGB image color and tone to achieve effects such as making images brighter or darker, creating contrast, and fine tuning colors. For adjusting image tone, the Curve tool allows modifying three variables - shadows, midtones, and highlights. For adjusting color, it allows editing the red, green and blue components of the image separately. Once the curve settings are set, they can be saved in the \Presets\Curves\ folder of the installation directory, and can be accessed as presets for use in other files. ACV files are also used by Lightroom, which is an image editing and management software by Adobe. ACV files store curves created using the Curves point tool. Curves created using the Curves pencil tool are saved in a different file format, AMP.

How to open ACV files

You need a suitable software like Photoshop to open an ACV file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ACV file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ACV file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

ACV file extension format:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the ACV files looks like this:

ACV is rarely used as a file extension and includes different formats for different programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:

All the rest of the ACV files (40%) have different formats, often, for example, MP4 and abm. Just click the "Choose your .acv file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your ACV file is.
