What is an ADX file?

ADX files mostly belong to TunerPro by Creational Technologies. ADX is the filename extension of data stream definition files used by TunerPro automobile tuning software. ADX is also a lossy audio file format for storing game sounds and music on Dreamcast game consoles manufactured by Sega. This ADX format uses ADPCM encoding. Its video game-centric design gives it several notable limitations. Unlike MP3 and similar formats, ADX does not use a psychoacoustic model to reduce sound complexity. Instead, it records the error relative to a prediction function and uses smaller sample rates to reduce file size. This results in noisy audio, but the tolerance of human hearing makes the loss of accuracy almost unnoticeable. It is also locked to an output sample depth of 16 bits as a result of its lack of precision. Before its discontinuation, Approach relational database management system also used ADX files to store database indexes.

How can I open an ADX file?

You need a suitable software like TunerPro to open an ADX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ADX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ADX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

ADX file format:

Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the ADX files is as follows:

The ADX extension is very commonly found and predominantly uses a uniform format. The file formats most commonly found in ADX files are:

The remaining 13% of all ADX files are different files with different signatures, often e.g. XML, ZIP, Adxt and SIDE. These files sometimes refer to growth, track, movies, djse, trustup or kamuro. You can get all the details of your ADX file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .adx file to play" above.

How to solve problems with ADX files

  • Associate the ADX file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open data stream definitions. Because only the current version supports the latest ADX file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Creational Technologies manufacturer website after an available TunerPro update.
  • To make sure that your ADX file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
