Opening APJ Files
The APJ file type is primarily associated with Mission Planner.
What is an APJ file?
APJ files are used by several specialized programs. The most common is a drone firmware file in JSON format, handled by Mission Planner or the APJ Firmware Uploader (ardupilot.org).
Other uses include:
- 3D Imaging: Files that store 3D X-ray images for dental analysis, as seen with CliniView.
- Automation Projects: XML-based project files created by Automation Studio (br-automation.com).
- Design Projects: Files from Lego Digital Designer and Apple Motion projects (support.apple.com/keynote).
- CAD and Simulation: Project files used by Autodesk AutoCAD and similar simulation tools (autodesk.com).
- Compressed Archives: Some APJ files are ZIP archives, such as those for the AstroGrav Project, often managed with 7-Zip.
FilExt.com tip: Open these files with the appropriate software. If the file is text based (JSON or XML), a text editor can reveal its structure; otherwise, use the dedicated application.
How can I open an APJ file?
You need a suitable software like Mission Planner to open an APJ file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your APJ file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a APJ file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert APJ files:
- Mission Planner
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. APJ files are often referred to as Mission Planner data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Angel Debug Monitor ProjectLink is PDF file.
- ARM Project Manager
- AutoCAD (Project File) by Autodesk, Inc.File Extension APJ stores information such as levels/divisions and project details. When double clicking on an .APJ file you launch the Project Navigator Project This file format is classified as CAD/CAM.
- Music Screen Saver FileUsually associated with .SCR file.
APJ file format details:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the APJ files is as follows:
APJ is not a commonly used file extension and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 45% of all APJ files are ArduPilot JSON firmware files, which are using the popular JSON file format. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data−interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. The files are often between 810 KB and 1 MB in size. The file type is very recent. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. image, "magic": "APJFWv1", "version": "0.1", image_size, "description": "Firmware for a STM32F427xx board", USBID and "board_id": 9. A common filename is arducopter.apj or arduplane.apj. Files like these are sometimes connected to ardurover, ardusub, orange, ardu, turbopix, plane, cube, heli and mini.
- 15% of all APJ files start with the magic bytes <INVFile version='2.0' byteOrder='LittleEndian'> <CaseInfo, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. A typical file size is 11 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. <INVFile version='2.0' byteOrder='LittleEndian'>, CaseInfo SampleFileName, 114421, IdentifyInfo GroupID and slice. The file name case001.apj is characteristic of these files. Such files are related to person-related data.
All other APJ files (40%) have different formats, often e.g. XML, DOC, ZIP, lsdf, AVAPROJECT and StreamInfo. The category is clonewars or project. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your APJ file!

How to solve problems with APJ files
- Associate the APJ file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open project files. Because only the current version supports the latest APJ file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Mission Planner update.
- To make sure that your APJ file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .APJ file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
