What is an AQM file?

AQM files mostly belong to AQM Designer. AQM files are used in different applications. The most common type is created by an Assessment Quiz Maker tool, such as AQM Designer. This file stores quiz data including questions, multiple-choice options, and settings. The file uses UTF-16 (LE) text encoding to support a wide range of characters.
Other uses include:

3D Animation Model Files – These contain model data used in animation projects and require specialized 3D software.

AlpineQuest Map Files – These hold geographic information for mapping. They work with GIS software like Locus Map and are featured on the official AlpineQuest site (alpinequest.net).

How to open an AQM file

You need a suitable software like AQM Designer to open an AQM file. AQM is not a commonly used file extension and mainly uses a defined AQM format. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 80% of all AQM files are using the well-known UTF-16 (LE) file format to store the data. UTF-16 (LE) is an character encoding system for Unicode. • 2% of all AQM files are AlpineQuest Map files. These files contain text and words, not binary data. Most of these files are 160 MB to 1 GB in size.
