What is an ARD file?

ARD files mostly belong to Alphacam by Hexagon. An ARD file contains a 3D drawing created with Alphacam computer-aided design and manufacturing software. A drawing stored in an ARD file is fed to a router and used to cut shapes from solid material like wood and aluminum boards during manufacturing operations. Another type of ARD file contains a workspace created by ArtiosCAD computer-aided design and folded packaging software. An ArtiosCAD workspace contains one more structural designs or drawings.

How do you open ARD files?

You need a suitable software like Alphacam to open an ARD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The file size is in the range of 21 KB to 1 MB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. Licom-APS File, Licom-APS File V1, AlphaCAM, EMF, !22222222222, $.' ",#, '9=82<.342 and JFIF. Files like these are sometimes connected to double.
