ATL file format:
To view or edit ATL files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our analysis of the ATL files produces the following result:
An ATL file includes a lot of different file formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 20% of all ATL files use the same file format, which have the signature #__AW_Repository_Version. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. ATL files can be up to 20 MB in size, but are often around 40 KB - 2 MB. The file type is a fairly new file format. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as __AW_Product_Version, __AW_Repository_Version, #__AW_ATL_Locale 'eng_us.utf-8';, ActaName_2, RDate, AlGUIComment ("ActaName_1", RSavedAfterCheckOut and ActaValue_1. Such files sometimes refer to load, rldm, export, master, conv, mart and ncts.
- 15% of all ATL files belong to Artlantis 3D scene. The files are using the common file format XML. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. ATL files are between 2 MB and 210 MB in size. The files contain the following words: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, Atl library, safe_version, <Atl.File>, <?Application name="Artlantis", Preview and file="5.0" min_version="5.1.0".
The remaining 65% of all ATL files are files with no common format, the following 8 formats exist: DOC and Auto. Files like these are sometimes linked to license, audit, outer, space, trail or aydspltjm. If you want to find out which format your ATL file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .atl file to analyze".
