What is an ATN file?

ATN files mostly belong to Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop Action Files (ATN) are files that store a recorded sequence of commands for Adobe Photoshop.
This file contains a set of steps that the software can play back to automate repetitive tasks such as resizing images, applying filters, and adjusting layers.
These files are not meant to be opened in regular text editors. Instead, they must be imported into Photoshop via the Actions panel, where you can view, run, or even tweak the recorded sequence.
If you have an ATN file, use the following steps in Photoshop:
  • Open the Actions panel
  • Use the menu in the panel to select "Import Actions"
  • Browse to and open your ATN file
  • FilExt.com tip: This allows the pre-recorded commands to be executed on your projects efficiently.

How to open an ATN file

You need a suitable software like Adobe Photoshop to open an ATN file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ATN file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ATN file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert ATN files:

    1. Adobe Photoshop
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. ATN files are often referred to as Adobe Photoshop settings because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
    2. Daqarta (Extended Audio Data) by Interstellar Research
Daqarta uses your Windows sound card to provide high performance waveform and FFT spectrum analysis, color spectrograms, signal averaging, signal generation, and advanced options for lab or personal use. You can open saved files, including standard WAV files collected elsewhere, to analyze waveform, spectrum, or spectrogram displays of file data. Even many unsupported formats can be opened via manual selection of format parameters. This file format is classified as Audio.
    3. Photoshop (Action File) by Adobe Systems Incorporated

    ATN format details:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the ATN files looks like this:

ATN is seldom used as a file extension and mainly uses a defined ATN format. The two most common formats are as follows:

The remaining 15% of all ATN files are different files with different signatures. If you want to find out which format your ATN file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .atn file to analyze".
