Opening an ATS File
The ATS file type is primarily associated with ATS Analyzer.
What is an ATS file?
ATS files can refer to different types of data files, depending on the software and context. Below are the main uses:
- Advanced Troubleshooting Log File: This file type uses the ZIP format internally to store system logs and diagnostic data. It is used for recording events and errors for troubleshooting, and is managed by tools such as ATS Analyzer and Advanced Threat Simulator.
- FLIR Thermal Image: Some ATS files hold thermal camera data from FLIR devices. They store thermal imaging information that is processed by FLIR Tools. For more details, visit FLIR.
- Advanced Test Suite Data File: Other files serve as text storage for test results, often labeled as Axon Text Storage. They are used for capturing diagnostic and test suite data in controlled environments, as seen with ADUTEST.
- Animation Texture Script: On Atari 8-bit systems, the ATS file can be an animation script text file containing instructions for animations. Additional information is available at AtariMax.
- TST200 Data File: This variant is used to store advanced test system data. It is associated with Audacity and the Advanced Test Stand, and further details can be found on the Audacity site.
FilExt.com notes: To open or view an ATS file, first check its content. If it appears compressed, you might rename it with a .zip extension and use a ZIP tool. If it is text-based, a simple text editor could work. For files that hold images or specific test data, using the specialized application related to that file type is recommended. A peek at the file header using a hex editor can also help determine its actual format.
How do you open ATS files?
You need a suitable software like ATS Analyzer to open an ATS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ATS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ATS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert ATS files:

ATS file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the ATS files looks like this:
The ATS file extension is not common and is used by different programs with different formats. But the following two file formats are common:
- 65% of all ATS files internally use the ZIP format, multiple files are compressed and combined into one ATS file. Most often they are 9 to 30 compressed files. Customary file names are ATSAppEvents.plist, AppVersion, AppVersionLong, CaptureConfigurationDataModel.plist, Messages.txt, SystemTimestamp.plist, checks.sum and iAPVersion. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. The files are 72 KB to 3 MB in size, with a median of 570 KB. The files contain the following words: BeagleUSBSettingsUT. Files like these are sometimes connected to capture, error, bluetooth, location and cartoon.
- 8% of all ATS files start with the bytes FLIR ATS-US File, which are crucial for this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are 170 KB to 650 MB in size, with a median of 650 MB. The keywords FLIR ATS-US File and SourceInfo are typical for these files. The file name Rec-20180601.ats is characteristic of these files.
All other ATS files (27%) have no consistent format, such as TST. If you want to find out what your ATS file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

How to solve problems with ATS files
- Associate the ATS file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest ATS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available ATS Analyzer update.
- To make sure that your ATS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .ATS file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
