CH files mostly belong to Agilent ChemStation. CH files are used in several distinct applications. The most common use is for chromatography data files generated by Agilent ChemStation. These files store chemical analysis information from gas chromatography instruments.

Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. 20% of all CH files use the same file format, which have the signature 03 31. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters.
