What is a DM3 file

DM3 files mostly belong to Digital Micrograph by Gatan. DM3 is a proprietary raster image file format for saving images captured with scientific devices such as digital microscopes, scanners, and cameras. Files stored in this format have DM3 filename extension and they contain graphics data and metadata such as pixel size, timestamp, and camera attributes. Microscopes used to capture DM3 images typically form images saved to the file from a beam of electrons transmitted to through Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). ImageJ and Digital Micrograph image and data processing programs may be used to open DM3 image files. DM3 filename extension is also associated with recorded game progress data created by Quake 3 Arena, a first-person shooter video game. Such DM3 files are stored as demos that can be replayed within the game.
