What is a DTS file

DTS files mostly belong to VLC by VideoLAN. A DTS file often contains audio content encoded in Digital Surround format and codec. The most common variant of DTS format stores audio content as a 5.1-channel system with 5 channels for speakers and 1 low frequency channel for the subwoofer in an entertainment system. DTS files are mainly used to store high quality lossless soundtracks in professional film and cinema applications. They are usually distributed as part of a DVD or CD. SQL Server relational database management system, saves its data transformation package in a DTS file compressed in ZIP format. DTS is also the filename extension of a device tree source file which describes a computer's hardware. This source file is compiled to a DTB file which the Linux kernel uses to manage software-hardware communication. Directory Toolkit, a file/directory management program for Windows saves scripts used to automate complex repetitive tasks in a DTS file.

How to open DTS files

You need a suitable software like VLC to open a DTS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DTS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DTS file directly in the browser:. DTS file extension format:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. The DTS file extension is used very often and includes different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 35% of all DTS files use the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Composite Document File format or OLE2 compound document format. Compound document files are used to structure the contents of a document in the file. It is possible to divide the data into several streams, and to store these streams in different places in the file. In this way compound document files support a complete file system inside the file, the streams are like files in a real file system, and the sections are like subdirectories. Compound files begin always with signature bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1 (ÐÏࡱá). The file contains several sections which are named like Header, REC2, Deleted, REC1, REC3, REC5, Package00000000, PackageDirectory, REC4, REC6, REC7, REC8 and REC9. The average file size is 350 KB with most files being between 59 KB and 2 MB in size. The file type is old but is used even today. Files like these are sometimes connected to import, report, export, daily, load, size and zeta.
• 20% of all DTS files are DTS encoded audio files. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. A typical file size is 29 MB. Such files are related to music, song, audio, pehle, video and kbps.
