What is a DV file

DV files mostly belong to QucikTime by Apple. DV filename extension is associated with videos recorded in Digital Video (DV) format using older video recorders. A DV file contains lossy-compressed video and uncompressed audio data. Audio/video streams and metadata in a DV file are packaged as Digital Interface Format (DIF) blocks which form the basic units of DV streams. DV format was widely used in film production and formed the basis of other formats such as MiniDV and HDV. Some variants of DV format include DVCPRO, DVPRO50, DVCAM, and DVPRO HD. The MIME type for transferring/broadcasting DV files over a network is video/x-dv. DV filename extension is also used to save images captured with DeltaVision high-resolution digital microscopes.

How do you open DV files?

You need a suitable software like QucikTime to open a DV file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DV file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DV file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.
