Opening a DVB File
The DVB file type is primarily associated with AutoCAD.
What is a DVB file
Some files with the DVB extension also serve other functions:
Few know that the Microsoft Compound format allows these files to encapsulate multiple streams, making them versatile yet dependent on their host application.
FilExt.com tip: Always open a DVB file with the program that created it to ensure all embedded components are correctly interpreted.
How to open DVB files
You need a suitable software like AutoCAD to open a DVB file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DVB file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DVB file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert DVB files:
- AutoCAD
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. DVB files are often referred to as AutoCAD developers because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- AutoCAD (VBA Source Code) by Autodesk, Inc.The Mime types used with this association are: application/x-dvb. The identifying characters used for this association are - Hex: D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1 00, ASCII: ÐÏ à¡± á . This file format is classified as Source Code. Program ID is AutoCADVBASource
- DVBLineDVBLine provides the basic interchange format for the DVB pilot, a project to develop a cooperative model for database recordship among the independent state German language media clearing houses. The Mime types used with this association are: application/x-dvbline. Related links: DVBLine Format

DVB file format:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our examination of the DVB files comes to the following conclusion:
The file type with the extension 'DVB' is mainly used by one program with a specific format. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 85% of all DVB files internally use the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. Compound document files are used to structure the contents of a document in the file. It is possible to divide the data into several streams, and to store these streams in different places in the file. In this way compound document files support a complete file system inside the file, the streams are like files in a real file system, and the sections are like subdirectories. Compound files always start with the bytes ÐÏࡱá (hex code D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1). The data in this file is stored in streams whose names are VBA_Project and VBA_Project_Version. The files are on average 190 KB in size and range from 26 KB to 880 KB. The file type was created 20 years ago but is still used today. Such files sometimes refer to project, acad, cadmax, tool, quantity, takeoff, tools, sample and layer.
- 5% of all DVB files are based on the well-known JetDB file format. The JetDB is a database format often used by Microsoft Access and Visual Basic programs. JET is short for Joint Engine Technology. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are on average 2 MB in size and range from 350 KB to 32 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Standard Jet DB.
All other DVB files (10%) have no consistent format, frequently e.g. GDEC. They are often associated with program, points, qsplus, survey, macro, solid or area. Just click the "Choose your .dvb file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your DVB file is.
Technical Data for DVB File Extension
a dvb project file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with DVB files
- Associate the DVB file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open project files. Because only the current version supports the latest DVB file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available AutoCAD update.
- To make sure that your DVB file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .DVB file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
