What is a GFA file?

GFA files mostly belong to SPAdes. GFA files are mostly used in bioinformatics to store sequence graphs from genome assembly processes. They hold data that describes nodes and links, representing how fragments of DNA overlap and connect. How to open GFA files

You need a suitable software like SPAdes to open a GFA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The following keywords are characteristic: VN:Z:1.0 and edge_1. The following filename is common: assembly_graph.gfa. Such files sometimes refer to unitigs, groot and contigs.

The remaining 40% of all GFA files are different files with different signatures, often, for example, GFA-BASIC MS-DOS tokenized source and ani.
