What is an IFP file?

IFP files mostly belong to 3ds Max. IFP Files come in several types. The most common IFP files are used as 3D animation data files with Autodesk 3ds Max. They store animation parameters such as keyframes and model transforms in a proprietary format.
Other variants include:

• Image data: Some IFP files use the JPG format internally and serve as texture files for games like Grand Theft Auto. Tools like ImageMagick can process these.
• Installer Scripts: A few IFP files are plain text scripts encoded in UTF-8 for use with Inno Setup. They can be opened in any text editor or run with the Inno Setup Compiler.
• Zipped Text: There are cases where IFP files are ZIP archives containing text, used as Oracle Forms Interface Files. An archive extractor is needed to view these contents.

How to open IFP files

You need a suitable software like 3ds Max to open an IFP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. IFP file extension format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below you will find our evaluation of the IFP files:

The IFP file extension is rather rarely used and mainly uses a defined IFP format. The file formats most commonly found in IFP files are:

• 70% of all IFP files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "ANP" at the beginning. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The file size is in the range of 26 KB to 2 MB. The file type is old but is used even today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. Root, ANP3, Pelvis, abseil, 3dsmax5 and Spine. A usual file name is ped.ifp. Files like these are sometimes connected to bikes, anim, animation and horse.
• 9% of all IFP files are based on the popular JPG file format. JPEG is the standard image format for lossy and compressed image data. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are on average 730 KB in size and range from 98 KB to 760 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: JFIF. Examples of file names are Page1.ifp.
