What is an IGX file?

IGX files mostly belong to FlowCharter by iGrafx. IGX is the filename extension of documents which contain technical drawings created with iGrafx digital products such as FlowCharter and Process. These IGX files comprise text, objects, styling information, and metadata which make up a vector diagram such as an organizational charts, flowcharts, workflow diagrams, business process diagrams etc. These IGX files have application/vnd.micrografx-igx Internet media type. IGX is also the filename extension of sonar data captured and logged during survey operations by Imagenex marine equipment such as the DT101Xi multibeam profiling sonar unit. The DT101Xi Windows program for controlling, displaying, and recording data transmitted by the DT101Xi Sonar system may be used to replay, filter, and export data saved in such IGX files. IntegraXor, a supervisory control, data acquisition, and human-machine interface software for the web, saves the server configuration of a project in an IGX file.

How do you open IGX files?

You need a suitable software like FlowCharter to open an IGX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your IGX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a IGX file directly in the browser:. The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. The IGX file extension is used very often and covers different formats for different programs. The two most common formats are as follows:

50% of all IGX files use the Microsoft Compound File format, known also as OLE2 Compound Document format or Composite Document File format. Microsoft Compound File is a complex container format used by some versions of Microsoft Office and other Windows-centric applications. It has features similar to those of a filesystem format. Header signature for the CFB format with 8-byte Hex value D0CF11E0A1B11AE1 (which looks like "DOCFILE"). There is also a globally unique identifier 3eb4967e-0f9e-11d2-be95-00c04f8ec1ff. The internal containers are called Contents, DocComponentsInfo, Diagram1, IGXDiagClass0, DocComponent0, SummaryInformation, DiagClass0 and DocComponent1. IGX files can be up to 3 MB in size, but are often around 50 KB - 490 KB. The file type was created 10 years ago, but is still used today. Files like these have the following tags: flow, process, ffcs, chart, state, folio, order, diagram and acme.
15% of all IGX files start with the bytes AES crucial for this file format. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are often between 630 KB and 7 MB in size. A usual file name is MetaData.igx. Files like these are about bundle.
