Opening an IIX File
The IIX file type is primarily associated with Trados Studio.
What is an IIX file?
How do you open IIX files?
You need a suitable software like Trados Studio to open an IIX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your IIX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a IIX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert IIX files:
- Trados Studio by RWS
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. IIX files are often referred to as Trados Studio miscs because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Rational Rose (data) by IBMRational Rose is an extended development environment which integrates with Visual Studio integrated development environment. It uses some data saved in an IIX file. This file format is classified as Data.
- XnView (image) by XnSoftXnView is a multi-platform image viewer with image editing and conversion support. It can open and display an IIX file containing a raster image. This file format is classified as Raster Image.
IIX file format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the IIX files is as follows:
The IIX extension is quite commonly used. The file itself covers different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 60% of all IIX files use the popular PNG file format. PNG is short for Portable Network Graphics. It is a high-quality raster image file that supports lossless data compression. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. IIX files are between 7 KB and 260 KB in size. The file type was created recently. The files contain the following words: IHDR, pHYs, sRGB, gAMA and IDATx^. Such IIX files store data about error, bcbd, logo, report, screenshot, breached, service and bcba.
- 25% of all IIX files are based on the well-known JPG file format. JPEG is the standard image format for lossy and compressed image data. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. IIX files can be up to 6 MB in size, but are often around 16 KB - 1 MB. The files contain the following words: JFIF and Exif. Files like these are sometimes connected to image.
All other IIX files (15%) have different formats, often, for example, MP4 and XML. Files like these are sometimes linked to bcbb, allery, sample, webex, bcbc, bcbf or snow. If you want to find out what your IIX file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
Technical Data for IIX File Extension
an iix translation memory index is a special file format by RWS and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with IIX files
- Associate the IIX file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open translation memory indexes. Because only the current version supports the latest IIX file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the RWS manufacturer website after an available Trados Studio update.
- To make sure that your IIX file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
