Opening IMD Files
The IMD file type is primarily associated with Dynamics GP.
What is an IMD file
How to open IMD files
You need a suitable software like Dynamics GP to open an IMD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your IMD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a IMD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert IMD files:
- Dynamics GP by Microsoft
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. IMD files are often referred to as Dynamics GP databases because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- ArcGIS (image metadata) by ESRIArcGIS is a geographic information system (GIS) software with map creation, visualization, and analysis tools. Some metadata of raster graphics formats used to render map data in ArcGIS are stored in IMD files. This file format is classified as GIS. Related links: What is a raster type?
- CyTOF (integrated mass data) by FluidigmCyTOF (Cytometry by time of flight) is a scientific research software for performing Mass cytometry experiments. This program uses IMD files to store integrated mass data which are then processed in order to create the FCS files used for data analysis. This file format is classified as Data.
- IDEA (database) by CaseWareIDEA is a business accounting software with data analytics, auditing, and fraud detection tools. Database files used by the program are stored in IMD files. This file format is classified as Data.
- ImageDisk (disk image) by Dave DunfieldImageDisk is an obsolete software for extracting and archiving data from floppy disks. It saved disk images of floppy disks in IMD files. This file format is classified as Disk Image.
IMD file format:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the IMD files looks like this:
Files with the IMD extension are quite widely used. This file type covers different formats for different programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 25% of all IMD files are ImageDisk disk image files. They consist of unreadable binary data. IMD files are between 25 KB and 790 KB in size. The file type is very old but is also used today. The files contain the following words: IMD 1 and Disk. The file name ACAD10-1.IMD or Disk01.imd is characteristic of these files. Such files are related to item, msdos, texture, imtcv and kopie.
- 20% of all IMD files start with the bytes 00 04 00 00 00 28 00 00 crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. Most of these files are 420 KB to 2 MB in size.
The remaining 55% of all IMD files are different files with different signatures, such as QuarkImmedia Document, XML, JetDB and version. These files are often connected to listing, report, sales, database, sample, integration, accounts, payments, supplier, manager, picsay, travel or user. Just click the "Choose your .imd file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your IMD file is.

an imd database or data import definition is a special file format by Microsoft and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with IMD files
- Associate the IMD file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open database or data import definitions. Because only the current version supports the latest IMD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Microsoft manufacturer website after an available Dynamics GP update.
- To make sure that your IMD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .IMD file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
