IND file extension format:
To find out what program is needed to open IND files, you need to determine the file format. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our examination of the IND files comes to the following conclusion:
IND is seldom used as a file extension and has no uniform or dominant file format. But the following two file formats are common:
- 10% of all IND files are associated with MapInfo MapBasic data Index. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. IND files are between 2 KB and 8 MB in size.
- 4% of all IND files are associated with InDesign Document. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are on average 3 MB in size and range from 420 KB to 5 MB.
All other IND files (86%) have different formats, often e.g. AOL thumbnails index. Often described as mdtn, model, font or subs. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your IND file!
