What is an IRX file?

IRX files mostly belong to UVBrewer by Martin Stanek. IRX file type is associated with data files used in the UVBrewer application developed by Martin Stanek at the Solar and Ozone Observatory of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute and is now used with Brewer spectrophotometers.

• Main Use: UVBrewer is a Brewer UV data analysis application used for reducing Brewer UV data files made using the UV, UA, UF, or UX routines. It is used in the calibration of lamps used by many companies in the electronics and optics industry. The IRX files, like the IRR files, contain irradiance data needed for lamp calibration. This data includes the responsivity and irradiance properties of lamps calibrated using the UVBrewer application.
• Other Uses: IRX files are also used as data files with the mainframe computers developed by IBM. IRX file extension is also attributed to modified or customized executable files developed for running on the Sony Playstation 2 gaming console (discontinued in 2012). These IRX PS2 files are used by PS2 modders in altering the original gameplay.

How to open an IRX file

You need a suitable software like UVBrewer to open an IRX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions.
