All about ITF Files
The ITF file type is primarily associated with Various Specialized Tools.
What is an ITF file?
These files use various encodings, such as UTF-16 (LE) for interleaved barcode data and UTF-8 for SAP label files. Each ITF file is built for a particular function and must be opened with the software that created it.
Below are some distinct uses of ITF files, with similar cases combined for clarity:
- Barcode and Label Data: Contains interleaved 2 of 5 barcode information used in CAD label formats (e.g., by COLOS Create and CODESOFT).
- SAP Label Format: Stores label data for SAP ERP systems. These files are sometimes named as the SAP ITF Format Data file. For more details, visit SAP.
- Data Transfer Files: Acts as an INTERLIS transfer file for transferring project data in environments such as Autodesk Industry Model Batch. Specialized viewers like INTERLIS Viewer are used to inspect these files.
- Font and Texture Files: Serves as a digital font or image texture file. More information is available at Image Systems.
- GPS Navigation: Contains itinerary data for navigation systems like those from Sygic GPS Navigation. Visit Sygic for details.
- Vehicle Tuning: Holds tuning settings, as seen with the DiabloSport Tuning File from DiabloSport InTune. Additional info can be found at DiabloSport.
- Tax and Data Exchange: May include income tax records or zipped XML data used for data interchange tasks (sometimes labeled as Interchange Format Data file). An example is seen in systems like iTWO costX; more details are available at OpenText.
FilExt.com tip: Each ITF file is structured for its specific task, with encodings and internal formats that suit its purpose. Few users know that the same file extension can cover very different types of data, so using the correct software is essential for viewing or editing these files.
How to open ITF files
You need a suitable software like Various Specialized Tools to open an ITF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ITF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ITF file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

ITF format details:
To view or edit ITF files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below is our analysis of the ITF files:
ITF is a very commonly used file extension and includes a lot of different file formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 10% of all ITF files internally utilize the UTF-16 (LE) file format. UTF-16 (LE) is an character encoding system for Unicode. UTF-16 files can be viewed in any modern text editor. These files start with the two bytes FF FE, the so called byte order mark (BOM). The content consists of binary data as well as text and words. The average file size is 26 KB with most files being between 5 KB and 57 KB in size. It is a modern file type. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. Image, Legend type, PaperColor, White, BackgroundColor and --Written by CoLOS Create V2. These files can be linked to layout and label.
- 6% of all ITF files are based on the popular UTF-8 file format. UTF-8 is the World Wide Web's most common character encoding for Unicode. UTF-8 files can be viewed with any text editor. These files start with the 3 bytes (hex: EF BB BF), the so called byte order mark (BOM). These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. The average file size is 2 KB with most files being between 860 bytes and 13 KB in size. The keywords /HTEXT, DATE, FIRST, LAST, NAME, TIME, USER, /:FORM S_DOCU_SHOW, /:OBJECT DOKU, /:STYLE S_DOCUS1 and /:LANGUAGE E are typical for these files. A common filename is SAFT_MD_NO004.itf or template.itf. Files like these have the following tags: saft, pallet and docu.
The remaining 84% of all ITF files are different files with different signatures, such as TIFF, SCNT, ITF and Name. They are often associated with trend, prta, rotem, money, indicatore, diablo or flow. If you want to find out what your ITF file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

How to solve problems with ITF files
- Associate the ITF file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open internal file formats. Because only the current version supports the latest ITF file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Various Specialized Tools update.
- To make sure that your ITF file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .ITF file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
