Opening an IX File
The IX file type is primarily associated with Micro Focus Data Protector.
What is an IX file
This file format is not meant for direct editing by users. Instead, the file organizes pointers, metadata, and search structures that support several key tasks. Different applications use the IX extension in different ways. For example:
How to open an IX file
You need a suitable software like Micro Focus Data Protector to open an IX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your IX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a IX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

IX file extension format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the IX files looks like this:
IX is rarely used as a file extension and includes very many different file formats. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 10% of all IX files start with the magic bytes ÿÿÿÿ, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are on average 22 KB in size and range from 4 KB to 1 MB.
- 10% of all IX files use the same file format, which have the signature dt. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The file size is in the range of 960 bytes to 310 MB. The following keywords are characteristic: dtsixd70, File and dtSearch. The following filename is common: index_d_1.ix or index_r_1.ix. These files can be linked to index.
All the rest of the IX files (80%) have different formats, often, for example, ZIP, RFTX, IIX and DVT. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your IX file!
