How can I open an IXF file?

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our examination of the IXF files comes to the following conclusion:

The file type with the extension 'IXF' is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 65% of all IXF files have the same signature 000051HIXF0002DB2. These files contain text and words as well as binary data. The average file size is 79 KB with most files being between 7 KB and 20 MB in size. The file type is old but is used even today. The following keywords are characteristic: 000051HIXF0002DB2   02 and ixf. Examples of file names are tab1.ixf. These files can be linked to lookup, account, myfile and data.
• 15% of all IXF files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "INSTRUMX " at the beginning. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. Most of these files are 7 KB to 8 MB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. INSTRUMX UTF8, INSTRUMX FILE, Group1, Tribo and measurement. These files are attributed to sample and ndry.
