All about N Files
The N file type is primarily associated with NekoVM.
What is an N file
They may be one of the following:
- NekoVM source code: Files that contain code or bytecode for the Neko virtual machine. These are used in development and execution within the Neko environment. For details, visit NekoVM.
- PDF document: Files that follow the PDF format. They must be opened with a PDF reader such as Adobe Acrobat Reader. More info is available at Adobe Reader.
- Nroff manual page: Files formatted with nroff markup. They are used to store manual pages for Unix-like systems and are processed by tools like groff. See the GNU groff Manual for further details.
- OpenDocument text: Files created by OpenOffice Writer that store text using OpenDocument formatting with ZIP compression. Visit OpenOffice for more details.
FilExt.com tip: To determine which format your N file uses, inspect its header in a text editor. The markings at the start of the file will indicate whether it is meant for the NekoVM, a PDF, a manual page, or an OpenDocument text.
How to open N files
You need a suitable software like NekoVM to open an N file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your N file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a N file directly in the browser:. N file format details:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our examination of the N files comes to the following conclusion:
The N file extension is rarely used and includes a lot of different file formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 15% of all N files are based on the well-known PDF file format. PDF is short for Portable Document Format, is a file format to present documents, including text formatting and images, in a manner independent of application software, hardware, and operating systems. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. N files can be up to 2 MB in size, but are often around 13 KB - 1 MB.
- 8% of all N files start with the bytes '\" '\" crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. Most of these files are 7 KB to 16 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. Generated from, Generated from file, by tcllib, doctools with format, format 'nroff', tcllib/doctools with, Caches, Library, Sources, apple, modules, tcl-128, tcl_ext and Copyright. Such files sometimes refer to json.
All other N files (77%) have no consistent format, frequently e.g. Neko bytecode and ZIP. Sometimes used for mean. Just click the "Choose your .n file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your N file is.
Technical Data for N File Extension
