Opening a NA File
The NA file type is primarily associated with Stormshield.
What is a NA file?
It may be a Stormshield backup file. These files store system or configuration data used by network security solutions. They are created by Stormshield Network Security applications.
Sometimes, an NA file is structured as an MP4 video fragment. In these cases the file uses the MP4 format, and you can open it with media players such as VLC media player.
Other times, the extension is applied to what is actually a PDF document that has been renamed. Though the name changed to NA, the content remains a PDF that should be opened with a PDF reader like Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- Stormshield backup: Holds backup data for network security systems. More info at Stormshield.
- MP4 video fragment: Contains part of video content. Details available at VLC media player.
- Renamed PDF file: Remains a PDF; renaming may mislead file associations. Visit Adobe Acrobat for guidance.
FilExt.com note: Checking the file header using a hex editor can reveal its true format.
How to open NA files
You need a suitable software like Stormshield to open a NA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your NA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a NA file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert NA files:
- Stormshield
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. NA files are often referred to as Stormshield backups because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- NoAdware (Data File) by NoAdware.netThe Lavasoft Ad-Aware program identifies these files as a "scam."
NA file format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the NA files looks like this:
As a file extension, NA isn't very common and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The following file formats are most commonly found in NA files:
- 20% of all NA files start with the bytes [BACKUP], which are crucial for this file format. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. NA files can be up to 220 KB in size, but are often around 87 KB - 180 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. [BACKUP], algo=1, date, model, serial, advanced=1, content="all", description="", type=GENERIC, IPv6State=0 and majversion=1.
- 20% of all NA files internally utilize the MP4 file format. MP4 is a multimedia container format used to store video and audio and allows streaming over the Internet. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are on average 11 MB in size and range from 3 MB to 25 MB. The files contain the following words: \tkhd, ftypmp42, lmvhd, mp42isom, trak and moov. Files like these are sometimes connected to ethical, hacking, animation, tips, tricks and office.
All other NA files (60%) have no consistent format. These files are often connected to subnetwork, introduction, abundance, essentiel, microsoft, learning or name. You can get all the details of your NA file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .na file to analyze" above.
