What is a NAV file?

NAV files mostly belong to Counter-Strike by Valve. A NAV file is a navigation mesh used by Valve's Source engine based video games like Counter-Strike, Left 4 Dead, and Team Fortress. A single NAV file contains a data structure which bots use to find and move through paths in these games. Each navigation mesh in a Source-based game has the same base name as its corresponding binary space partition (map and level) file. Garry's Mod physics sandbox game uses the same type of NAV file to save its navigation mesh. Navigator celestial navigation/analysis software saves ephemeris and celestial data in a different NAV file.

How can I open a NAV file?

You need a suitable software like Counter-Strike to open a NAV file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. The files contain the following words: DATE, RUN BY, RINEX VERSION / TYPE, GNSS NAV DATA   M, Mixed   RINEX VERSION, 03   N, Users and Desktop. Such files are related to base.
