What is an NDR file?

NDR files mostly belong to Rave Reports (Nevrona). NDR files are container files used in specialized applications to hold structured data such as report definitions and measurements.
These files do not follow a single universal standard. Instead, they come in different forms depending on the software that creates them. For example, Rave Report files generated by reporting tools from Nevrona are common.

How to open an NDR file

You need a suitable software like Rave Reports (Nevrona) to open an NDR file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our analysis of the NDR files produces the following result:

Files with the NDR extension are quite widely used. This file type covers different formats for different programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in NDR files:

• 40% of all NDR files use the same file format, which have the signature 5A 0A 14. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are 3 KB to 830 KB in size, with a median of 170 KB. The file type is a fairly new file format. The keywords 798:;<=, Arial4 and Rave Report are typical for these files. Such files are related to uvedomlenie, records and list.
• 25% of all NDR files have the same signature 5A E1 07. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. NDR files can be up to 13 MB in size, but are often around 3 KB - 1 MB. The following keywords are characteristic: 798:;<=, Arial4 and ReportPrinter Report. Files like these have the following tags: audit, lock and report.
