All about NID Files
The NID file type is primarily associated with NanoScope Analysis.
What is a NID file?
In another instance, a NID file can contain drawing information. This variant stores a Nemetschek Vectorworks drawing (also called an Allplan CAD File) and often uses a ZIP‐based compression. To work with this type, you would use CAD software from Allplan.

How to open NID files
You need a suitable software like NanoScope Analysis to open a NID file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your NID file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a NID file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert NID files:
- NanoScope Analysis
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. NID files are often referred to as NanoScope Analysis data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Nikon Capture (IPTC Data File) by Nikon Inc.Nikon Capture allows you to make fundamental and subtle adjustments to your Nikon Electronic Format (NEF) files-without compromising the original file's integrity. Program ID is Nikon.IPTC Data
NID file format:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the NID files looks like this:
The NID file type is a very commonly used file extension and predominantly uses a uniform format. The file formats most commonly found in NID files are:
- 90% of all NID files have the same signature [DataSet] Version=2 GroupCount=. They consist of unreadable binary data. A typical file size is 520 KB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Version=2, [DataSet], Gr0-ID=0, Gr0-Name=Scan forward, Gr0-Ch1=DataSet-0:1, GroupCount=2, Gr1-ID=0, Gr1-Name=Scan backward, Gr0-Count=8, Gr0-Ch0=DataSet-0:0, Gr1-Count=8, Gr1-Ch0=DataSet-1:0, Gr0-Ch2=DataSet-0:2 and Gr1-Ch1=. Files like these are about image, hopg, sample, graphite, gold, zoom, structure and scan.
All the rest of the NID files (10%) have different formats. These files sometimes refer to data, graphit or bare. Just click the "Choose your .nid file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your NID file is.

a nid data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with NID files
- Associate the NID file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest NID file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available NanoScope Analysis update.
- To make sure that your NID file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .NID file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
