What is a NOTE file?

NOTE files mostly belong to Apple Notes.

NOTE files are note documents used by several note‐taking applications. They may use different internal formats to store text, media, and metadata.

Apple Notes (ZIP format):

This version is a compressed file (ZIP) that contains the note text, images, and formatting data.

It is used by Apple Notes and similar apps such as Notability and GoodNotes.

Samsung Notes:

This format holds notes created in Samsung Notes and can store handwritten content along with text.

How do you open NOTE files?

You need a suitable software like Apple Notes to open a NOTE file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. To view or edit NOTE files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK.
