All about NRL Files
The NRL file type is primarily associated with iManage.
What is an NRL file?
- Main Use: Autonomy Interwoven CMS solutions are used in the organization of company-wide digital resources and in the management of workflow by permitting users to process, review, transform and publish documents. NRF files are used by the Autonomy Interwoven applications to store a link reference to a resource within the content management system (CMS). The data in the NRF file is saved in a text format and contains the library name, document, and version number.
- Adoption: Autonomy Interwoven WorkSite, Autonomy Interwoven DeskSite, and Autonomy Interwoven FileSite applications are Windows-run applications that use NRL files.
How to open an NRL file
You need a suitable software like iManage from iManage to open an NRL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your NRL file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a NRL file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

NRL file format:
To find out what program is needed to open NRL files, you need to determine the file format. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our analysis of the NRL files produces the following result:
The NRL file extension is very common and mainly uses a special format.
- 100% of all NRL files do not have a uniform signature. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. The files are 69 bytes to 110 bytes in size, with a median of 83 bytes. The file type is relatively new. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. database, nrtdms, session and document. These files are often associated with letter, agreement, draft, report, form, active, certificate and complaint, and frequently comprise personal data.
