Opening NVF Files
The NVF file type is primarily associated with NVF Player.
What is an NVF file?
NVF files are used by several systems and are not limited to one standard. They are most commonly found as a Network Video Format that stores video data from network-based recording and streaming devices.
NVF files work in different ways depending on their origin. They may be one of the following types:
- Network Video Format: Files that hold encoded video streams for use in dedicated NVF players and network video recorders.
- NICE Video File: A proprietary video format used with the NICE Vision Player. More details can be found at NICE.
- Encoded Application: Some NVF files incorporate an EXE internal format, combining video data with built-in playback functions.
- ThirdEye/NeuroVision Data: Files designed to store visual or data feeds for systems like RV-ThirdEye in NeuroVision setups.
- Voice Recorder File: A less common variant that contains audio. It is sometimes recognized as a Yamaha Voice File and may be played with a voice file player. Additional information is available at NCH.
- Network Configuration Data: In some cases, NVF files store configuration settings for industrial networking systems used by Rockwell Automation. Visit Rockwell Automation for more info.
If you have an NVF file, identifying its source is key. Use the specific application recommended by the vendor—whether that is an NVF player for video or a configuration tool for network settings—to open and view the file.
FilExt.com tip: Some NVF files carry metadata or embedded instructions that standard media players might not display. Check the file properties and vendor documentation for handling tips.
How do you open NVF files?
You need a suitable software like NVF Player to open an NVF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your NVF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a NVF file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

NVF file format details:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below you will find our evaluation of the NVF files:
You will often come across the NVF file type. This is used by different programs with different formats. The file formats most commonly found in NVF files are:
- 65% of all NVF files start with the magic bytes ¬9Þ.VERF, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. Most of these files are 3 MB to 740 MB in size. The file type is relatively new. The following keywords are characteristic: .VERF. Such NVF files store data about movie, myexport, video, view, pids, platform, sector, fixed, explosion, entrance, incident, fall, roof and rpst.
- 15% of all NVF files use the popular EXE file format. EXE is the abbreviation for executable and is the standard executable file format on Windows. The format can be identified by the letters "MZ" at the beginning. Executable files can also be used to distribute viruses and other types of malicious software (malware). The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. Most of these files are 15 MB to 1 GB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. !This program cannot be run in DOS mode. An example of a file name is DVR_20180601_20180601.nvf.
The remaining 20% of all NVF files are files with no common format, often, for example, Creative Nomad II series MP3 players Voice File audio, NICE and ThirdEye. Tagged as elevator, outdoor, lobby, north, camera, casino, center, door or west. Just click the "Choose your .nvf file to play" button on this page to find out what your NVF file is.

How to solve problems with NVF files
- Associate the NVF file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open video files. Because only the current version supports the latest NVF file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available NVF Player update.
- To make sure that your NVF file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .NVF file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
