All about OID Files
The OID file type is primarily associated with MIB Browser.
What is an OID file?
OID files mostly belong to MIB Browser. An OID file is mostly used as a file containing Object Identifier definitions for network management. In its primary role, it stores SNMP MIB data that maps numerical codes to network elements according to formal standards.
Such files allow network tools to identify and monitor devices by reading the hierarchy of object identifiers. For instance, applications like Microsoft Internet Information Services and dedicated MIB browsers (e.g., ones associated with Microsoft Management Console or iReasoning MIB Browser) use these files to process SNMP data.
In other cases, an OID file can be an encrypted database file. One variant is linked with OpenOffice.org Impress (more details available here) and in rare instances might be associated with fax image formats.
If the file is plain text, you can open it with a text editor to view the structured identifiers. If the content is encoded or encrypted, then you will need the related SNMP tool or the original application to read it. Verify the file’s header details to check which use case applies.

How can I open an OID file?
You need a suitable software like MIB Browser to open an OID file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your OID file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a OID file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert OID files:
- MIB Browser
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. OID files are often referred to as MIB Browser data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- ProCurve Manager (Non-ProCurve Network Device File) by Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.ProCurve is HP's networking solution. For third-party network devices the (.OID) device file specifies characteristics of non-ProCurve network devices (switches) to PCM. It is required to display the device information in the PCM display, and to link the device type to traps from the specified devices. This file format is classified as Text.
- Prosa/OM
Technical Data for OID File Extension
an oid data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with OID files
- Associate the OID file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest OID file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available MIB Browser update.
- To make sure that your OID file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .OID file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
