What is an OND file?

OND files mostly belong to PVsyst. OND files are mainly used as configuration files for PV system simulations. They store inverter parameters and solar inverter data used by PVsyst software.
They are used in different ways:

PVsyst inverter parameter files: These hold key inverter settings and performance data, often in plain text or with UTF-8 encoding.

PVsyst solar inverter data files: They include detailed data that help simulate solar inverter behavior.

How to open an OND file

You need a suitable software like PVsyst to open an OND file. This was a Lotus product. Lotus was bought out by IBM. Lotus Notes and Domino are a fundamental component of IBM Workplace. An OND file is actually a small Notes database with only one document in it (OND=One Note Database). To open it, save the attachment and open it with a Notes client to see the message. The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. The file type with the extension 'OND' includes different formats for the applicable programs. The two most common formats are as follows:

65% of all OND files use the same file format, which have the signature PVObject_=pvGInverter. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. A typical file size is 3 KB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The files contain the following words: Comment, Flags, PVObject_=pvGInverter, PVObject_Commercial, Version, PVObject_Com, pvCommercial, Manufacturer and ParObj1. These files are attributed to sungrow, pvsyst, preliminary, peak, ingeconsun, ingeteam, ginlong, delcen and delta.
25% of all OND files are using the well-known UTF-8 file format to store the data. UTF-8 is the World Wide Web's most common character encoding for Unicode. UTF-8 files can be viewed with any text editor. These files start with the 3 bytes ï»¿ (hex: EF BB BF), the so called byte order mark (BOM). These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The files are on average 3 KB in size and range from 1 KB to 3 KB. The keywords Comment, PVObject_=pvGInverter, PVObject_Commercial, Version, Manufacturer, PVObject_Com, pvCommercial, ParObj1 and Flags=$0041 are typical for these files. An example of a file name is SMA_STP110-60_V1_prelim_BK.OND. Such files sometimes refer to prelim, highpower and fimer.

All other OND files (10%) have different formats, such as Lotus Notes Encapsulated Memo and pvGInverter. These files are often connected to polycab, electronics, pyrmid, model, power, gtsi, psit or tbea.
