- CAD/CAM Order Data: Such files support applications in cabinet design software, like Cabinet Vision (Hexagon's Cabinet Vision).
- Text-based or Compressed Order Documents: Some .ord files are simple text order details or even OpenDocument Text Documents packaged in a ZIP format (7-Zip).
- Word Processor Files: For instance, the WordPerfect ORDinary file (Corel WordPerfect) uses the .ord extension to store document data.
- Receipt and Restaurant Orders: Files like Jollibee receipt orders or Waffle House order files use the format to store transaction details.
- eBook or Dictionary Data: A less common use is for Estonian e-books in a binary word processor format (Estonian Language Dictionary).
FilExt.com notes: Purpose and Functionality: Each .ord file is created to capture specific order data. The internal structure varies with the software. Some files are plain text, while others use a binary or compressed format. This means that to open and view an .ord file properly, you must use the associated application. In many cases, if the file is text-based, a simple text editor can show its content. However, for files with complex structure, only the dedicated program will correctly interpret the data.

ORD file format details:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the ORD files looks like this:
The ORD file type is a very commonly used file extension and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 20% of all ORD files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters " ORDER FORM " at the beginning. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. The files are on average 2 KB in size and range from 1 KB to 2 KB. The file type was created recently. The files contain the following words: --------------------, ORDER FORM, C.S.NO.427,MU.HOUSE NO.1765, FIRST FLOOR , GALA NO.B, SURYA MEDICALS, C.S.NO.427 ,H. NO.1765, FIRST FLOOR,SHOP NO.'A',SUBHASH ROAD and M/S GANESH DISTRIBUTORS. Files like these are about endo.
- 10% of all ORD files start with the magic bytes HDR,001,PO,, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The files are often between 570 bytes and 1 KB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: ADDTS1, ORDERS, NMADDR, HDR,001,PO,MMELECT,23707,1.1,P, REFRNC,PD,DAILY, FRETXT,GEN and MM Electrical M. These files are attributed to purchase and order.
The remaining 70% of all ORD files are different files with different signatures, often, for example, Source, UTF-16 (LE), config, ZIP, WordPerfect, COG, itemnbr, TRIPLEDRAGON, ORD and HINDPETRO. They are often associated with export, orders, short, scan, imported, cabinet, colour, import, output, sample or vision.
