Opening a P File
The P file type is primarily associated with Python.
What is a P file?
P files are not tied to a single format. They can store serialized data in different environments. The main types include:
Functionality:
FilExt.com notes: The file content is stored in a binary format, meaning text editors may not display readable content. Each type must be handled with the proper software. For Python objects, use Python's unpickling process; for MATLAB data, use MATLAB; and for PDF content, use a PDF reader.
How to open P files
You need a suitable software like Python to open a P file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your P file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a P file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

P file format:
To view or edit P files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our examination of the P files comes to the following conclusion:
P is a very widely used file extension. The file type is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 30% of all P files have the same signature v0. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The file size is in the range of 210 bytes to 2 KB. The file type is relatively new. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as v01.00v00.00. Files like these are about system, reduction, noise, create, check, model, soln, generator, fusion, square, image, least, multi, tests, data and draw.
- 20% of all P files have the same signature 80 03. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. P files are between 1 KB and 38 MB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: core, multiarray, cnumpy and dtype. The following filename is common: test.p. These files are attributed to train, true, dict, features, taxi, results and pickle.
The remaining 50% of all P files are different files with different signatures, often, for example, Applause Picture, PDF, PNG, DOC, ZIP, zlib, Source, file, IMGDIFF, FilePacHeaderA, OOCH and BSDIFF. These files sometimes refer to recovery, sample, drawing, labels, skater, funcionarios, database, vehicles, relacao, images, notice, dist or ergo. If you want to find out which format your P file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .p file to analyze".

a p serialized data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with P files
- Associate the P file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open serialized data files. Because only the current version supports the latest P file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Python update.
- To make sure that your P file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .P file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
