What is a PARAM file

PARAM files mostly belong to Mission Planner. ArduPilot configuration files are the main use of PARAM files. They store settings that drive flight behavior in UAVs.

How to open PARAM files

You need a suitable software like Mission Planner to open a PARAM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. To find out what program is needed to open PARAM files, you need to determine the file format. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the PARAM files is as follows:

The PARAM file type is a very commonly used file extension and includes many different file formats. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 9% of all PARAM files start with the bytes ACRO_ crucial for this file format. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. The files are on average 18 KB in size and range from 11 KB to 21 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: AHRS_COMP_BETA,0.1, AHRS_CUSTOM_PIT,0, AHRS_GPS_GAIN,1, RATE, AHRS_CUSTOM_ROLL,0, AHRS_CUSTOM_YAW,0, ADSB_ENABLE,0, ACRO_BAL_PITCH,1, ACRO_BAL_ROLL,1, ACRO_RP_P,4.5, ACRO_TRAINER,2, ACRO_YAW_P, AHRS_ORIENTATION, AHRS_RP_P, EXPO, AHRS_EKF_TYPE,2, AHRS_GPS_MINSATS,6 and AHRS_GPS_USE,1. These files are attributed to parameters, terakhir, sebelum, frame, ganti and type.
• 6% of all PARAM files start with the bytes 08 01 00 00 00 00 01 00 02, which are crucial for this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are 260 bytes to 260 bytes in size, with a median of 260 bytes. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. KEY_CONFIG_PARAM, Vdec, fqrw\jki] and hg[ZWavFY. The following filename is common: KeyConfigParam.param.

All other PARAM files (85%) have no uniform format, often, for example, XML, NOTE, STEX, KEY, ATK and Data. These files sometimes refer to equip, weapon, speffect, action, button or goods.
