Opening a PCR File
The PCR file type is primarily associated with PCMark.
What is a PCR file
Structure: PCR files are written in ASCII and contain lines with keywords and flags denoting specific information. The following keywords may appear in a PCR file:
- TITL (title for multi-pattern refinement)
- COMM (title for single-pattern refinement)
- NPATT (optional; only if COMM is not specified)
- W_PAT (optional; only if NPATT is specified)
Related formats: Other than PCR, there are other possible formats used, such as: SFF, FAS, QUAL, ABI, AB1, ABD, ALX, CM5, MSEQ, EMBL, EFF, FASTA, FAP, NT, AA, FASTQ, FQ, FNA, FRN, FFN, FMA, FOF, GCG, PRO, PEP, GBK, GB, GP, GENBANK, GENPEPT, GENEIOUS, DAD, GNV, CIF, DNA.
Related associations: PCR could refer to benchmark result files created by the PCMark benchmarking software.
How to open a PCR file
You need a suitable software like PCMark to open a PCR file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PCR file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PCR file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert PCR files:
- PCMark by Futuremark
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. PCR files are often referred to as PCMark data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Creatacard (label project file) by American GreetingsCreatacard is a program for designing items such as labels and greeting cards. LBL files store postcards created using Creatacard. This file format is classified as Page Layout. Related links: Google Play, American Greetings Wikipedia
PCR format details:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. In the following you will find our evaluation of the PCR files:
PCR is rarely used as a file extension and covers different formats for different programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 40% of all PCR files use the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. Compound document files are used to structure the contents of a document in the file. It is possible to divide the data into several streams, and to store these streams in different places in the file. In this way compound document files support a complete file system inside the file, the streams are like files in a real file system, and the sections are like subdirectories. The first 8 bytes of the CFB format are D0CF11E0A1B11AE1 (which looks like "DOCFILE"). These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are on average 100 KB in size and range from 21 KB to 2 MB. This is an old file type which is rarely used today. Such files are related to cake, and frequently comprise personal data.
- 15% of all PCR files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "01 00 39 30 A1 00 00 00" at the beginning. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are often between 740 KB and 21 MB in size.
All the rest of the PCR files (45%) have different formats, the following 4 formats can be found: ZIP. Often described as pcmark, omicron, variant or batch. You can get all the details of your PCR file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .pcr file to analyze" above.

a pcr benchmark file is a special file format by Futuremark and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with PCR files
- Associate the PCR file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open benchmark files. Because only the current version supports the latest PCR file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Futuremark manufacturer website after an available PCMark update.
- To make sure that your PCR file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .PCR file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
