PFF file format:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the PFF files looks like this:
The PFF file extension is quite common and is used by different programs with different formats. The file formats most commonly found in PFF files are:
- 65% of all PFF files are associated with Formatta Portable Form File. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. Most of these files are 9 KB to 140 KB in size. The file type is old but is used even today. Files like these have the following tags: form, ocps, application, employment, time, casual, worker and request.
- 10% of all PFF files are using the well-known UTF-8 file format to store the data. UTF-8 is the World Wide Web's most common character encoding for Unicode. UTF-8 files can be viewed with any text editor. These files start with the 3 bytes (hex: EF BB BF), the so called byte order mark (BOM). If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The file size is in the range of 130 bytes to 360 bytes. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Version, [Run Information], CSPro 7, [Files], AppType=Entry, Application, InputData, [DataEntryInit] and csdb. Examples of file names are Assessment.pff or Menu.pff. These files are attributed to download, data and dict.
The remaining 25% of all PFF files are different files with different signatures. Tagged as consent, parent, freestyler, report, fractal, appfor or prod. If you want to find out which format your PFF file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .pff file to analyze".
