Opening a PIM File
The PIM file type is primarily associated with PIMShell.
What is a PIM file?
- Graphic files: These PIM files are digital multimedia files used for web-related media. Also known as PixMaker project files, they are created by using the PixMaker software. PixMaker is a utility that lets users create interactive web-related graphics and presentations. Other than graphics, a PIM file can store text, animated motion graphics, sound clips and different effects. These files are usually saved transferred via email. PIM files can only be opened and modified using the PixMaker software. There are no methods or tools that can convert these files into other extensions, and they are only supported on Windows-based systems.
- Compressed PIM files: These files use a compression and data encoding algorithm that turns them into archives that are smaller in size the original file. These files are mainly used to store important and confidential information and create backup copies of data. They are primarily used when a user's computer is corrupted and important data might be at risk. Another reason why compressed PIM files are created is to transfer data via low-bandwidth connections.
How can I open a PIM file?
You need a suitable software like PIMShell to open a PIM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PIM file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PIM file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.
