Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our analysis of the PJS files produces the following result:

As a file extension, PJS isn't very common and is used by different programs with different formats. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 40% of all PJS files start with the bytes èV» crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. PJS files are between 270 bytes and 300 KB in size. The file type is very recent. A usual file name is NewUser.pjs. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are often between 170 MB and 170 MB in size. The keywords /Vaa{, E;NY and J5GAZ are typical for these files. The following filename is common: MENE587.pjs or MENE652.pjs.
