Opening PLA Files
The PLA file type is primarily associated with ArchiCAD.
What is a PLA file?
How can I open a PLA file?
You need a suitable software like ArchiCAD to open a PLA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PLA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PLA file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

PLA file format:
To view or edit PLA files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Below you will find our evaluation of the PLA files:
Files with the PLA extension are quite widely used. This file type includes different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 65% of all PLA files belong to ArchiCAD Plan Archive. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The average file size is 140 MB with most files being between 32 MB and 330 MB in size. The file type is relatively new. The keywords ROF FDB and Pg\E are typical for these files. Such PLA files store data about proeqti, plan, koreqtireba, modello, glavni, gegma, model and bolo.
- 15% of all PLA files start with the bytes WW crucial for this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. PLA files can be up to 120 MB in size, but are often around 3 MB - 42 MB.
All the rest of the PLA files (20%) have different formats, the following 4 formats exist: XML. Often described as progetto or design. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your PLA file!

How to solve problems with PLA files
- Associate the PLA file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open project files. Because only the current version supports the latest PLA file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available ArchiCAD update.
- To make sure that your PLA file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .PLA file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
