What is a RED file?

RED files mostly belong to Visual Studio Code by Microsoft. A RED file contains redline markup created with CADViewer design review API. A redline markup comprises tags, annotations, notes, comparisons, and comments added to a 2D or 3D design during a review session. Such a RED file is usually displayed as the uppermost layer of a design document. Another type of RED file contains source code written in RED programming language. You can edit this file with a text editor. RED 3D video titling and visual effects editor uses a RED file to store a project. Clarion database application development environment's Modula-2 compiler saves path data in a RED file.

How do you open RED files?

You need a suitable software like Visual Studio Code to open a RED file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RED file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RED file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

How to solve problems with RED files

  • Associate the RED file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open source codes. Because only the current version supports the latest RED file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Microsoft manufacturer website after an available Visual Studio Code update.
  • To make sure that your RED file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .RED file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
